Automatically credit clients account when cancelling an order they paid for but no longer need

We have all our clients pay upfront. In the event they need to cancel we would like to see the amount they paid automatically be added to their credit management. This was helpful in past software we used. Right now it is manual and if we miss a cancelation we will forget to add the credit to the clients account.
